Please find information below about included activities and optional excursions available in Lisbon and while on our Bike Tour of Portugal Wine Country. We've selected all of these activities to give you unique and authentic cultural experiences while visiting this beautiful country.

IMPORTANT: All of these activities are optional, but please read the descriptions carefully.  Some activities are included and we just need a headcount, while others are at an additional expense and will require non-refundable payments to secure your reservations. 

YOU MAY CHANGE YOUR SELECTIONS UP UNTIL PAYMENT IS COLLECTED ON AUGUST 2nd.  In July, we'll remind you of your selections and provide an opportunity to adjust your choices.

If arriving early and you would like to enjoy some tours or activities, we suggest taking advantage of Project Expedition's (PE) offerings.  Below is a link to the fun, educational or adventurous activities PE

has to offer.  You can book these directly with PE on your own schedule using the link below.

Airport Ground Transportation 

The Lisbon airport is approx. 7 miles from our Bairro Alto hotel.   Ride share services are available, however we can arrange private transfers for up to four people for 50 euros p/car on your arrival. â€‹

September 16 - Walking Tour of Evora at 1-4pm (after arriving from Lisbon and having lunch at your leisure)

In Evora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, enjoy an insightful walking tour with a local historian.  Learn about its 2,000+ years of history as a major trading and religious center reflected in the amazing array of historical monuments located within the ancient city walls, including a Roman temple and the Chapel of Bones! Today, Evora is a vibrant city with an engaged student population who attend one of the world’s oldest universities.

This activity is included, but optional, and may be cancelled without penalty.

September 16 - Wine Tasting & Dinner at Cartuxa Enoteca at approx. 7pm

A 2020 Trip Advisor Traveler's Choice, Cartuxa Enoteca is a wonderful restaurant that includes wine tasting from the Adega de Cartuxa (winery located just outside of town) and delicious traditional tapas made from local produce. This activity is approximately 55 euros per person for the tasting and dinner and would be self-pay at the time of the event.  The alternative is to have dinner at your leisure in Evora.

This activity is optional, and may be cancelled without penalty.

September 17 - Group Lunch at Herdade da Fita Preta (at end of an optional 24 mile loop ride)

With only three flat miles remaining to our hotel, we’ll stop and enjoy a delicious, but light, buffet lunch with 3 wines, including the beautiful deep reds for which Fita Preta is famous.  This family-owned winery and estate will provide beautiful scenery while you relax from the bike tour. The alternative is to continue back to Evora and eat at the hotel or in Evora proper.

September 17 - Convento do Espinheiro (Three optional evening experiences)

The inspiring Convento do Espinheiro, is a convent artistically converted into a luxury resort, which during the 15th and 16th centuries was frequented by the Portuguese monarchs.   The resort, 11 miles outside city center, feels like you’ve time traveled when you step inside.  We have three opportunities at this stunning historic location 1) an olive oil & wine tasting, 2) a tour of the stunning chapel and grounds, and 3) a memorable dinner.   The alternative is to stay in Evora exploring and having dinner at your leisure.

1) Olive Oil & Wine Tasting at 5:30 pm

Enjoy samples of the sublime olive oil and wine Portugal is known for during this tasting session.

2) Convento do Espinheiro Tour (following Olive Oil & Wine Tasting)

See the amazing grounds and incredible church buildings from the 15th and 16th centuries and learn the history of this amazing facility. The alternative is to take the provided transportation back to Evora for an evening on your own.

3) Dinner at Convento do Espinheiro (following Tour)

Enjoy a lovely dinner in this beautiful location.  The dinner is self-pay and is an average of 80 euros per person.  The alternative is to take the provided transportation back to Évora following the tour.

MONSARAZ ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS - September 18-19

September 18 - Group Lunch at Herdade do Esporão (during a 42 mile one-way ride)

Herdade do Esporao is one of the iconic wine and olive oil producers in Alentejo. This incredible winery is not to be missed.   We are inviting you to eat a delightful picnic lunch outdoors, overlooking the vineyards, vegetable gardens and lake, with a lovely bottle of wine from their vineyards.  While an elaborate dinner is common here, we opted for a picnic that you share with your travel partner while you experience the winery first-hand with all its flavors and ambiance.  This is in the middle of our bike ride, so it is a highly recommended, but optional, stop for lunch.

September 19 - Boat Tour on Lake Alqueva at 5:00 pm (earlier in the day - a 20 mile optional loop ride)

After some R&R at the hotel, or perhaps the whole day if you chose to not ride today, you may take a lovely late afternoon boat ride around Lake Alqueva.  The lake is the largest manmade lake in Europe.  Enjoy white wine and snacks as you cruise through the calm waters of this beautiful lake. The price is 20 euros per person.

NOTE:  There will be an optional hike to the hilltop village of Monsaraz to watch the sunset, see fantastic views of the lake and perhaps join in a group dinner.  Monsaraz is an alluring medieval village totally enclosed with fortress walls and home to a medieval castle. You may hike from the boat for the1.5 mile uphill paved route with views of the lake.  Alternatively, from the hotel, you may enjoy a 3.7 mile scenic hike through the olive groves and vineyards of Herdade do Barrocal on your way to the hilltop.   A van transfer is available too.

September 19 - Dinner at Sabores de Monsaraz at approx. 8:00 pm

At Sabores de Monsaraz, enjoy true, authentic Portuguese culture and hospitality with a private dinner at a small, family run restaurant in a beautiful setting with a set menu selected from the day's fresh offerings at the local market.  Dinner includes house wines, starters, two mains (meat & fish) and dessert. The price for dinner is 40 euros per person.  The alternative to this activity is to have dinner on your own in the village of Monsaraz or at one of the two restaurants at our hotel.​

VILA VICOSA ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS - September 20-21

September 20 - Dinner at Estremoz Gadanha Mercearia at approx. 8:00 pm (earlier in the day - 33 mile one-way ride)

We'll have the afternoon at leisure to explore Vila Viçosa and our new hotel.  Our guides recommend dinner at Gadanha Mercearia & Restaurant in Estremoz.  The critics rave that this foodie-loving spot brilliantly merges traditional local products with contemporary touches, and even with all that said, the dessert is a highlight not to be missed!  This restaurant will open just for our group and treat us to a special evening.  Estremoz is 20 mins from Vila Vicosa and transportation is included.  The price for dinner is 50 euros per person.  The alternative is to stroll Vila Vicosa to find a restaurant at your leisure or enjoy dinner at our hotel, Hotel Marmoris.

September 21 - Bike Tour Grand Finale at Dona Maria Winery at approx. 6:30 pm (earlier in the day - 26 mile optional loop ride)

Our bike tour guides created a very special grand finale experience at Dona Maria vineyards in Estremoz.  As private guests of the winery, envision touring this palace-like home with its interior rich in tiles from the 18th Century and marble of the region, while sipping their wines.  We'll learn about the history and wine making of the vineyard.  Later, dinner will please the eyes and palette with linens, crystal stemware, silver flatware and an extraordinary meal to match! This wonderful experience is curated for, and open only to, our group and offered for 170 euros per person.

September 25 - Ground Transportation to Lisbon Airport

Sadly, it's time to say goodbye.  To make this final journey in Portugal fit your needs, we have two options, a private transfer or a shuttle.    Details below:  

 

Private Transfer:   If interested in private transfer to the Lisbon airport or another location, please let us know and we'll get you pricing.   

 

Shuttle:   We'll arrange for a shuttle to the Lisbon Airport on Saturday morning.  After receiving the results from this survey, we'll communicate back to the interested shuttle guests the best group departure time and price.  It takes approximately 2.5 hours to get to the Lisbon airport from our hotel, so we've encouraged booking late morning/midday flight departures.
